Never a Dull Moment

When you live in Kansas, tornadoes are just a part of life. You hear about them, but usually they don't affect you personally. Well, last night was a different story. Around about 7 pm the sirens went off. All I could think was, 'Oh great, is this going to mess up Carter's bedtime?!'. So we did the usual thing where we turn on the TV, run to the basement, and call our family that lives close to make sure they made it to their basement too. It got pretty scary for a while, but as usual nothing really happened (thank GOD!). This went on until about 9:30-10pm. We all got to bed and around 1:30 Matt woke me up asking me if I had also heard that loud crack and what was it?! He got up and looked outside and the wind was blowing the trees so hard it looked like we were in the eye of a tornado, but the sirens weren't going off. He told me to run and get Carter and go to the basement. I tripped about three times on the way to get him cause I had just been woken from a deep sleep. We went downstairs and turned the tv on to see what was going on. Why were the sirens not going off?? As it turns out there was not a tornado, but it was hurricane winds of up to 8o mph! That loud crack that woke up us and our neighbors was our large pear tree falling in our front yard. This tree was right outside of Carter's window and did he wake up through any of this?! No! He was actually just a little bothered to be taken out of his bed. Must be nice to sleep that soundly. Anyway, our tree took out a street lamp and a street sign and just missed our neighbor's car and mailbox (thank goodness!). Luckily it did not damage our house or cars. One of our neighbor's has a huge tree in their house and another actually found a trampoline in their attic!!! Here are pictures of some of the damage. Thankfully we are all safe and sound.
